“Whoa….Is that a penguin?” That is what my husband George asked our guest on board Java Cat on Saturday, December 9th, 2012. He changed course and headed towards these 2 birds. They were chasing pilchers along the flats. What caught his attention was the way they moved through the water. They look like they were flying underwater. more info

Reef Relief will be celebrating the 27th year of the International Coastal Cleanup with a community kayak shoreline cleanup on Saturday, September 15th of Geiger Key. Pay $50 a month for unlimited access to a paddle board or kayak. No sign up fee, no time obligation. All you need to do is call our Geiger Key Kayak & Paddle Board Hut ahead of time to insure availability for you. 305-296-4126 is the direct line to the Chickee Hut at Geiger Key Marina.

If you have had the pleasure of visiting the island then you would know that boat charters are everywhere. Almost all are overpriced, crowded, and underperforming. I am happy to report that the Java Cat Eco Tours was anything but. Our first trip we opted for a half day kayak and snorkeling tour a small mangrove island about 4 miles off of Key west. Our guide Capt. George took the four of us out. What a great experience! He was incredibly knowledgeable of the local area and wildlife. We had the good fortune of snorkeling with Sea Turtles!! Very Rare! Our group was so impressed that were kicking ourselves for not doing it sooner. So we re-booked for a full day charter on our last day of vacation. I wish I could remember the second Captains name who took us out but he was equally impressive and welcoming. They are reasonable in price and flexible. They truly want you to have a memorable experience. The previous year we chartered another catamaran and spent the same amount for a half day with them compared to a day and half with Eco Tours.
I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for something more than an average experience. Eco Tours is exactly that. You will learn more in one day out on the water with them than month on-shore. We are already planning our next trip and will be heading straight back to the Java Cat! Thank you again guys, great job!
Just returned from the all-in-one tour of sailing/snorkling/kayaking–what a great time! Our captain/guide, Johnny, was fantastic and very knowledgable about the incredible array of wildlife and the unique ecosystem of the keys and mangrove islands. We had a thoroughly enjoyable morning and would highly recommend this trip–the lunch on board ship was terrific, too!

My son and I had some big activities planned, but all three were cancelled last week due to high winds. We were really disappointed, but our concierge suggested we take a kayaking tour with Key West Eco Tours and we were very pleased. Tortuga Jack knows his mangroves and gave us a lot of information. There were 6 kayaks in our tour, so it was a small enough group to be able to ask questions. I highly recommend this!

Had a great tour. Jack our tour guide was awesome! He knew so much. Tour was layed back. Get to learn about the Keys, see wild life, and kayak in the mangroves. If you want to see the back country and tired of the booze cruises and tourists traps, this is for you. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience.
Get so much for your money! Sailing on a catamaran, kayaking in the mangroves, snorkeling and to end a perfect day, being served some delicious food. Our host, Yajaira, was extremely knowledgeable and capable in all aspects! Being a part of a small, intimate group made it all the more enjoyable. I highly recommend this!

With similar tours out there, this is what really set them apart. We had Betheny as our captain and tour guide. She really went out of her way to make sure everyone was enjoying themselves, and felt comfortable. She was very knowledgeable. We also met the owner, George, who was really helpful and informative about things in the city. We are so glad we booked this trip, it will be something to remember!
I cannot recommend this tour enough! My boyfriend and I were looking for a small tour so we were not jammed onto a boat with 100 other people, and this was just what we wanted. The tour is limited to 6 people, plus the captain. Our captain was John, and he was wonderful – very relaxed, knowledgeable, and had great stories.
You definitely get your money’s worth with this tour – definitely check it out!

We had Ed as a guide and he was knowledgeable and fun. It is easy for people of all ages and seeing the mangroves was just amazing. We would definitely come back when will be in key west next time!
Carla was our guide for the day and the trip was awesome! We snorkeled, kayaked and got to see dolphins jumping in the water three times! She is funny, knowledgable about the wild life there and a wonderful guide. The tour was only four people so it was a calm relaxing trip away from the craziness of Duval St. Good family activity as well.
I went on the morning sail/kayak/snorkle trip. The captain/guide took us out to a mangrove island and expertly pointed out nurse sharkes, various birds (including bald eagles), and other wildlife. Kayaking around the island was my favorite part, it was a little windy going back to the boat so I felt like I had a good little workout, but it was not too difficult. While the guests were snorkeling the captain prepared a light lunch (curry chicken salad, bread, fruit and veggie). It was very windy and cold after getting out of the water, so bring a jacket. He put the sail up for the ride back to key west. The boat is small, in addition to me there were only four other adults on the trip- it makes for a very personal experience.
